During the 6th November and 15th December 2023, the Commonwealth Government welcomed submissions on the COVID-19 response in aim of improving Australia’s preparedness for future pandemics.

AHPA’s submission focused on the challenges occurring and continuing to occur in relation to public health messaging and communication. The infodemic and the impact of misinformation and disinformation (mis/disinformation) has emerged as a significant public health issue impacting the COVID-19 pandemic and the emergency response. AHPA recommended a comprehensive approach to addressing the public health challenges posed by mis/disinformation based around the five key action areas of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion.

This submission was prepared by AHPA Board Member, Glen Ramos and AHPA President, Melinda Edmunds.
