AHPA event - Professionalisation of the public health workforce

Join us for the September 2023 meeting of the Health Promotion Learning and Teaching Community of Practice. Hon. A/Prof Leanne Coombe will present on the work that has been underway by the World Health Organization to professionalise the public health workforce. In particular, she will provide an update on the comprehensive competency framework for public health education that has been developed and what that potentially means for public health educators in the Australian context.

Hon. A/Prof Leanne Coombe (Public Health Association of Australia)

Leanne Coombe is an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Queensland. She has been a member of the PHAA for many years and joined the staff in July 2022 as the Policy and Advocacy Manager. She has both Master and Doctorate degrees in Public Health and postgraduate qualifications in Public Relations. She has over 20 years of experience in public health throughout Australia and internationally as a health practitioner, executive manager in both the Australian Government and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Sector, international public health consultant, and public health academic. She is a co-chair of the World Federation of Public Health Associations’ Professional Education and Training Working Group and a member of the WHO Public Health and Emergency Workforce Steering Committee and Technical Advisory Group on Competency-based Education.

The event is free for AHPA members and $25 for non-members.

Event registrations close Sunday 10 September 2023. The event link will be emailed to registrants on Monday 11 September 2023.
