Community Leadership in Times of Crisis - Free webinar

16 Sep 2020, 8:00am-9:30am

When a crisis hits, it can create a reverberating sense of anxiety, disorder, and disconnect throughout affected communities. While disturbing society as a whole, these crises also disproportionately affect marginalised communities. To get through these extremely challenging times we rely on structures that bring us together and provide opportunities for recovery. Previous crises have demonstrated the value of governments working in partnership with communities to successfully tackle a crisis, together. This webinar will explore lessons learnt from previous crises – such as the HIV health crisis, the recent bush fires, and the current Victorian experience of COVID-19 – with a specific lens on how we can adapt and apply these key learnings in our ongoing pandemic.

Wednesday 16 September

8:00AM – 9:30AM AWST

Panellists:

  • Darryl O’Donnell, CEO, Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations
  • Chris Christoforou, Executive Officer, Ethnic Communities' Council of Victoria
  • Victor Steffensen, Lead Cultural Fire Practitioner at Firesticks Alliance, and Author of Fire Country
  • Facilitator: Dr Cassandra Goldie, CEO, ACOSS
