Josephine Chau
President

Josephine Chau is a public health researcher with expertise in physical activity, sedentary behaviour, health promotion, and program evaluation. She is currently Senior Lecturer in Public Health at Macquarie University and works on Dharug and Eora lands.

Jo’s core research focuses on adults and workplace settings. This has involved designing and evaluating ‘move more, sit less’ initiatives, and investigating the social and environmental factors that affect workers’ moving and sitting, their mental wellbeing and productivity. Her current projects include exploring high intensity interval training as a way to accumulate physical activity in daily life, using citizen science to study physical activity during COVID-19 lockdown, evaluating the impacts of Play Streets on community health and wellbeing, and investigating the potential of a co-ops approach to improve fruit and vegetable intake of families from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Jo has worked on a range of multidisciplinary projects funded by different agencies, including the NSW Ministry of Health, Heart Foundation, and the World Health Organization.
